It was the lipstick that first caught my attention – red but with a compromising orange blend. It popped, hinting that her personality would be as bold and electric as her lipstick suggested. She was approachable. Embracing. Magnetic. And upon meeting my hubby and me for the very first time, she invited us that evening to the home she shares with her husband to enjoy dinner with them and a few other family members and friends. Her name is Lila Clinton and just as spring is vibrant and refreshing – so is she! Lila is the fourth and final woman we will celebrate at the close of this month for Women In History.
Through her company, Lila’s Kreative Kitchen, Lila is always at the center of good people, good food and good wine. It’s simply part of her natural aesthetic. Her catering company offers the full scope of her genius and her ability to whip up a savory meal in what seems like minutes! A native of New Orleans, LA, she prepared a cultural feast for us replete with cream cheese grits topped with various cheeses, bar-b-q shrimp, lobster tails, fresh veggies with grilled asparagus, and an assortment of fresh fruit. To delight our palettes even more, she served mimosas as the drink of choice. Scrumptious indeed!

For years, Lila says she has been passionate about creating unforgettable moments through event planning, her catering business and her ability to serve up delicious foods that put the final stamp on memorable moments. “Now I’m ready to expand what I do, and I’m going to add travel to my mix.” Lila says. “If it’s a girl’s night, dream vacation, family trip, destination event or whatever it is, I’m going to help my people have a seamless and unforgettable memory.”
As a professional who says she’s reintroducing herself in 2025, 45-year-old Lila is equally fierce as an African-American woman. “I’m a spiritual person,” says Lila. "And I’m a very giving person. All of my family and friends will tell you if you come by Lila’s, she’s going to feed you good and give you something good to drink. I tell people there are 3 things that I will never steer you wrong on – that’s food, drink and Jesus!” And that’s just Lila!
She boasts a 17-year marriage to her husband and best friend, Will. Yet, Lila tells of difficult times in which she and her husband were tested. “Hurricane Ida was life-shaking for Will and I,” confesses Lila. “We had to move 3 times within 16 months. And in the midst of all of that, I lost my brother the next year, in 2022.”
Lila says this year she’s more focused on taking better care of herself. Her strategy is to take her life 90 days at a time. She adds that what drives her is truly her love of people. “That is a beautiful part of being made in God’s image,” she says. “Loving the creation he made.”
