CLOSED BLINDS

A woman’s mind is replicated through the presentation of her home. We may not realize the connection between home and mind initially, but there is definitely a correlation between the two.

(My living room features my love of wood, Black art and Afrocentric elements.) Generally, the less stressed we are, the more likely our home presents as peaceful, orderly and clean. When we are overwhelmed or living in mental chaos, our home reflects that disarray—becoming cluttered, unsettled, or even unclean. That’s because dysfunction in the mind begets dysfunction in the home. It’s like having a gorgeous home with big, beautiful glass windows covered by closed blinds. No light gets through.

 

Living behind closed blinds can happen both literally and figuratively. For example, imagine living in the gorgeous home mentioned earlier, with its big, beautiful glass windows, yet keeping the blinds down because of fear — or because someone implied you should be concerned that others may be watching you or seeking to harm you. In doing so, you limit the joy that abundant natural light can bring. Beyond its beauty, sunlight also offers emotional, physical, and even financial benefits. Sometimes, letting the sun in is an act of healing, freedom, and trust.

A closed mind limits our capacity to grow, achieve, and thrive. But when we allow the light of truth to illuminate our thinking, we unlock the full power of the mind and give positive thought the freedom to propel us intellectually, creatively, and even financially.
