The Princess of Lipsticks and Lip Gloss

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

Meet owner and CEO of Creations of a Drama Queen, Amani Abdullah

She calls herself the Pink Dancer, a name she self-bestowed when at 8-years-old she wanted to have a pen pal. “It wasn’t even a thing anymore by the time I wanted one,” says Amani. “Aunt Sakinah said if I got an email address we could pen pal that way.” She was in the 4th grade – pink was her favorite color – she performed with a dance company – and she had fallen in love with cupcakes. Since then, Amani Abdullah’s ideals and persona have expanded. Now, at 17, she is the proud owner and CEO of Creations of a Drama Queen, a beauty product line that specializes in organic and vegan lipsticks, lip glosses and lip balms.

I immediately recognized Amani to be an outgoing, charismatic teen with a very bright future. She is multi-creative and attends Owings Mills High School just outside of Baltimore Maryland where she is an executive board member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Tri-Music Honor Society. She performs with 2 signing groups, [an alto with mezzo soprano range] and she is a poet, songwriter and creative writer. An A-lister among her peers, Amani currently plays the lead role in the school play, Blood At the Root, by Dominique Morisseau, which premiered in 2014 at Pennsylvania State University. The play explores social injustice, racial double standards and the state of Black family life.

No wonder Amani’s company name is Creations of a Drama Queen! She is literally becoming a demonstrative brand before even graduating high school. Some of her classmates are clients, but her products are featured on Instagram where customers direct message her with their orders. She offers year round selections such as Divafide – a liquid lipstick line, and holiday lines such as Crushing – Liquid Lipstick and Confectionery Hearts – Lip Balm. “The liquid lipsticks are a little more opaque than the lip glosses,” Amani explains. She further reveals that through trial and error she learned that adding petroleum jelly to lipstick formulas actually dries out the lips more quickly. “It pulls the moisture out of the lips,” she says. “Because it’s constantly pulling the moisture to the surface of your lips. That’s when I started placing replenishing moisturizers in my products.”

Amani’s lines include more than her 3 staples. She also offers lip oils, body butters and body scrubs in a variety of fragrances. She encapsulates her orders in beautiful wrapping paper and boxes and seals each one with a personal hand-written note of appreciation. She has progressed far beyond her debut as the Pink Dancer. She now identifies as the Beauty Alchemist; a name she will use as she grows her brand. She is poised to continue on a trajectory of discovery, implementation and success. “As the millennials say, Amani is “everything”.

Amani’s holiday Valentine lines are currently 50% off.
