9 TIMES IN 1 DAY

As I sat in the coffee shop positioned at the entrance of a major department store, the most amazing thing happened. I was waiting for my husband to return, so I wasn't in a hurry. It gave me an opportunity to allow my eyes to meet the eyes of a few passersby as they were entering and/or leaving the store. To my surprise, as our eyes met, the passerby's face would collapse into a friendly smile that said, "Hello. I see you." Our reciprocal energy danced in the air and I was filled with hope.
Hope — because in a world riddled with people who are nasty, pushy, inconsiderate and heartless, I connected, if ever so briefly, with the inherent kindness people possess. It happened 9 times in 1 day.
Kindness is now unexpected and unpredictable. We can't always allow the realities of history to determine how we will govern ourselves now and in the future. I urge you to take a few moments at least once a week to stop and take pause. Look into the eyes of a stranger and with genuineness and love of life, allow your face to collapse into a smile, your eyes to slant with hope and say in the loudest silence ever..."Hello. I see you."
